About Helen
I knew something wasn’t quite right when, for over a year after the birth of my first child, I found myself replaying my labor and delivery. Many would say I should be grateful for my healthy baby and move on. Life went on, and my confidence in womanhood and motherhood grew as I learned about pregnancy, labor, and delivery. With time came wisdom and healing.
When I discovered I was expecting my second child, I dove into understanding physiological birth and my body. This time, I felt a sense of peace. After delivering my own baby, I felt called to become a birth doula.
I didn’t want women to feel alone in this transformative experience, whether it was their first or fifth baby. I felt a pull toward supporting the journey from woman to mother and man to father. While the concept of a birth doula isn’t new—women have attended each other’s births for thousands of years—it is gaining recognition in the modern Western world. Knowing someone is in the room who has walked this path before brings comfort, especially in those moments where time feels both endless and still.
My family lovingly teases me, calling me the “Hula Doula,” as I also have a passion for studying Hawaiian culture and practicing hula. I enjoy dancing with my hula ‘Ohana, going for walks, fishing with my family, and photography - I am a memory keeper.Images by joymasi.com & Helen Holmes Photography
